Eighth-grade falls to Pine Lake

The eighth-grade girls’ varsity basketball team played host to Pine Lake recently, losing a nail biter 38-44. The Hawks got off to a slow start but finished strong with some key steals late in the fourth quarter. Madison Yakabowski led the effort with 34 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Nikkin Stanton had two steals, Caylene Castagno had two rebounds, Vica Falcon had two points and three steals, Cassidy Will played a strong defense, Miranda Pratt had three rebounds and two assists, MacKenzie Peerboom had two rebounds, Jessica Paladini had a rebound, Wendy Hecker had a rebound and Hannah Gogan had two rebounds.


SMS girls defeat Tolt

The Snoqualmie Middle School girls’ seventh-grade JV basketball team defeated the Tolt Thunderbirds 14-8 on Dec. 13 at Snoqualmie. Taryn Hockenbury scored eight points in the first quarter to lead the Eagles to victory.


Eagles swoop down on Hawks

The seventh-grade JV girls’ basketball team from Snoqualmie Middle School defeated the Chief Kanim Hawks 16-5 on Dec. 15 at Fall City. The Eagles had a balanced scoring attack with four points each from Gabby Rader, Lyndsay Burdulis and Marika Loudenback. Emily Mauhl and Taryn Hockenbury also scored for the Eagles.


SMS victory not easy against Tolt

The Tolt Thunderbirds proved a tough opponent before yielding to Snoqualmie Middle School’s seventh-grade girls’ JV basketball team 18-13 on Jan. 11 at Tolt. Michelle Whims led the Eagles with seven points. Lyndsey Burdulis and Summer Nash added four and five points, respectively, in the hard-fought battle. Whims hit a crucial three-pointer to seal the victory. Summer Nash had an outstanding game on defense.


Eagles continue winning streak

The Snoqualmie Middle School seventh-grade JV team continued their winning ways by defeating the Chief Kanim Hawks 26-8 on Jan. 13. The Eagles’ balanced scoring attack was led by Morgan Hodsdon with six points. Michelle Whims, Taryn Hockenbury, Summer Nash and Lauren Burdulis added four points each for the 4-and-0 Eagles.


SMS girls have undefeated season

The Snoqualmie Eagles seventh-grade JV girls’ basketball team finished a 5-0 undefeated season with a 22-5 win over Chief Kanim on Jan. 24. Lyndsey Burdulis led the scoring with an 8-point first quarter and scored 10 for the game. Michelle Whims and Summer Nash each had four points.

The Eagles had a great season and look forward to next year with great anticipation. Coach Jerry Hillburn and the players wish to thank their fans for their tremendous support this season.

Eagles win ‘Battle of the Birds’

Feathers were flying as Snoqualmie and Chief Kanim middle schools squared off in their annual “Battle of the Birds” basketball game in a packed house at the Mount Si High School gym last week. The SMS girls’ eighth-grade varsity flew from the opening tip and behind Danielle Crabtree’s inside touches off the glass, Caitie Richards dropping shots from the outside and Jordyn Wilson’s drives to the hoop, the Eagles built an 18-9 first quarter lead. SMS continued the scoring pressure with Amy Martin and Rachel Nyberg each contributing clutch baskets, increasing the Eagle’s lead to 28-17 at halftime.

Wilson was hustling all over the floor, both on offense and defense, dribbling through the opposition, making steals throughout the game and ending with a team-high 18 points. Maegan Welcome and Kelsey Walker were outstanding on defense, stifling their opponents and limiting the Hawk’s scoring threats. Crabtree had some great blocks and continued to hit her shots, connecting for 13 points, while Richards, along with her aggressive defense, added eight with some impressive drives through the lane. Nyberg cleared the boards and finished with six, while Daionda Davis dished out some crucial assists, also scoring a high-arching two. The Eagles held off a late charge by the Hawks to end their season with an exciting win, 49-42. Team awards were also handed out recently. Richards was recognized as Best Offensive Player while Welcome won Best Defensive Player. Nyberg was recognized as Most Improved Player and teammate Amy Martin was awarded Most Inspirational. Jordyn Wilson won the Special Coaches Award.
