Hawks fall to Pine Lake
The Chief Kanim Hawk girls’ basketball teams traveled to Pine Lake recently where both the seventh- and eighth-grade varsity teams fell. The teams worked extremely hard in both games and showed a never-give-up attitude. Stars for the seventh-grade included Zoe Gogan with four points, eight rebounds and four blocks, Amanda Gates with two points, Baylee Sinner with four rebounds and Stevie Riley with three steals.
For the eighth-grade, Brie Busby had four points, MacKenzie Will had four points, Lara Hartwig had two points and Brittany Bair had two points.
Hawks defeat Maywood
Maywood Middle School, always a strong wrestling team, fell to Chief Kanim recently 56-32. The Hawks technique and conditioning helped in the victory.
Winning by pin were Dan Peterson, Darrell Kinsman, Andrew Sypher, Royce Clark, Lee Amador, Aaron Moetului and Brad Reaves. Vince Vasquez won by technical fall, while Ben Larson, Justin Bridges and Chris Hindmarch also had wins for the team. Patrick Brown, Shane Nicholson, Zach Storm, Joe Farmer and Robert Cortes all wrestled extremely well for the Hawks varsity team.
V and sixth-grade win
The Chief Kanim Middle School wrestling team defeated Maywood at the JV and sixth-grade level. Leading the way for the Hawks was Justin Williams, Max O’keefe, Andy Kutner, Sherman Hutcherson, Jeremy Serrick, Ross Tassara, Aaron Peterson, Jarrett Adams, Jaryd Blais, Taylor Hawes, Zach Frederick and Zach Boynton. The team wrestled very well, and has shown great improvement in just two days time.
Hawks down Mercer Island
The Chief Kanim Hawks wrestling squad opened its regular season against Mercer Island recently and came away with a 70-27 win. The team wrestled extremely well and looked focused for their first outing.
Dan Peterson, Ben Larson, Darrell Kinsman and Andrew Sypher started the team off with 24 points and four pins. Shane Nicholson scored six points with a forfeit win. Royce Clark, Vince Vasquez, Kyle Macy and Aaron Moetului also scored pins on the evening. Justin Bridges picked up a win by major decision. Tino Paophavihanh, Chris Hindmarch and Brad Reeves each won by way of forfeit.
For the JV and sixth-grade action Taylor Yotz and Jarrett Adams won matches for the team. Sixth-graders Zach Frederick and Ross Tassara also won their matches against Mercer Island opponents. Several other wrestlers had impressive matches. Leading the way were Sherman Hutcherson, Andrew Kutner, Justin Williams, Zach Storm, Jeryd Blais, Joe Farmer, Cody Furulie and Jeremy Minor.
Hawks defeat Tolt
The Chief Kanim Middle School Hawks seventh-grade girls’ varsity basketball team defeated the Tolt Mustangs last week 36-10. The Hawks got off to a fast start with an aggressive full-court press. Stevie Riley did well in the effort with six points and six steals. Marina Druse had two points and three steals, Baylee Sinner had eight points and three steals, Zoe Gogan had 10 points and five rebounds, Kassidy Maddux had eight points and Corey Hannekan had two points and two steals.
Varsity falls to Tolt
The eighth-grade Chief Kanim girls’ varsity basketball team didn’t fair quite as well as the seventh-graders, falling to Tolt 16-41. Despite the score, the players never gave up. Allysa McLauchlin led the effort with five points and 10 rebounds. Brittany Bair had four points and Lara Hartwig had three points.
