Eagles win bird battle
The seventh- grade Snoqualmie Middle School varsity basketball team finished their season as strong as they started, defeating Chief Kanim in the annual “Battle of the Birds” and posting an impressive record of 9-1. The Eagles flew out of their nest, and with Jori Braun hounding the ball, Haley Chase intercepting passes and Alexis Pearlstein capitalizing on turnovers, the outing was impressive. Pearlstein hit two outside shots for a quick four, placing the Eagles ahead 10-6 after one quarter.
Jori, Haley and Rachel Finnegan hit some soft touch hoops off the glass as they drove through defenders, increasing their lead at half to 15-7. The Eagles scorched the nets to begin the third quarter behind the hot-shooting Finnegan, who had six. Hailey Eddings showed some nice fakes and drives to the hoop for four and the “all-season tenacious” Aubrey Larion added another two. Alli Holyoak fired in a rainbow to close out the scoring as the Eagles soared to a 35-12 victory. Braun led all scorers with 10, followed by Finnegan with eight. Daylee Hames was a spark off the bench, and Maggie Robinson was a force on the boards. It was a great season for the Eagles as they battled all season for a championship.
Post season honors include Braun for Best Offensive Player; Aubrey Larion for Best Defensive Player; Eddings for Most Inspirational Player; and Allison Holyoak for Most Improved Player.
JV girls win
The Snoqualmie Middle School eighth-grade JV girls basketball team defeated Chief Kanim in their annual “Battle of the Birds” 29-19. The Eagles played hard defensively and held the Hawks to very few scoring opportunities.
The Chief Kanim team mounted a comeback in the fourth quarter but the Eagles stifling defense held out for the win. Michelle Whines and Lyndsay Burdulis led all scorers with 11 and 10 points respectively. Tough defense by Tanya Hockebury and Lauren Burdulis helped seal the win.
