Hawks defeat White River

The Chief Kanim Middle School seventh-grade football team traveled to White River last week defeating the host team 18-0. The Hawks scored first on a Tanner Riley 6-yard touchdown run. The Chief Kanim defense then came up with a sack by Lucas Zupan and Brad Reaves on fourth down. Just before halftime, Riley connected with Drew Handy for a 40-yard touchdown pass to take a 12-0 lead. The Hawks finished off the scoring with a Jesse Sebade 4-yard touchdown run behind Chris Hindmarch, Aaron Motulei and Vince Vasquez’ key blocks. The Hawks are now 4-0.

Riley had 81 rushing yards, one touchdown and one touchdown pass. Vasquez had 35 yards on the ground and eight tackles. Tyler Ostby had 20 yards rushing and 60 receiving yards. Sebade had a 4-yard touchdown run. Eric Emsky had six tackles. Zupan set the seventh-grade record for sacks in a season with eight and Handy had a 40-yard touchdown reception.

Volleyball team defeats panthers

The Chief Kanim Middle School eighth-grade volleyball team defeated Issaquah last week in three games, 25-19, 25-20 and 25-17.

In game one, Tess Sollitto made 9-of-12 serves for the night. Danielle Fulfs had a wonderful game hustling and attacking at the net. As always Brittany Cragin and Sollitto were the backbone of the team with consistency.

In game two Katie Storrs served up 11 total serves. The star of the game and match was Miranda Pratt with six kills and one full block.

Hawks mow over Enumclaw

The Chief Kanim varsity football team traveled to Enumclaw last week to play an undefeated Enumclaw Timberwolf team and came home with a 38-30 victory. The Hawks went right to work driving down and scoring on a 6-yard run by Joey Evans. Chief Kanim stopped Enumclaw on defense and again drove down and scored on an Evans’ scamper. Evans scored again before half and the Hawks’ led 22-8.

In the second half, Enumclaw mounted a comeback on some trick pass plays. The Hawks never punted and scored on every possession except one. Tyson Riley did an outstanding job at quarterback, going 4-for-4 passing and calling a smart game. Zach Kirschmeyer had some crushing blocks as well as rushing for 56 tough yards. Joey Evans rushed for 193 yards on 16 carries.

Defensively, the Hawks were led by Zach Brevick and Morgan Jordan, who had 10 and six tackles respectively. Brevick also had a fumble recovery. The line did an outstanding job of block ing and controlling the line scrimmage. Chief Kanim is now 4-0 and will play at Glacier this Wednesday.

Hawks defeat Eagles

Chief Kanim Middle School’s seventh-grade football team defeated a visiting Snoqualmie Middle School Eagle team 20-7. The Hawks used some key defensive plays to take control of the game as Taylor Fish picked up an Eagle fumble and returned it 50 yards for a Hawk touchdown. Frank Tasara then ran the ball in for the extra point to make the score 7-0.

After an Eagles’ score tied the game 7-7, Tony Dunken intercepted an Eagles’ pass and ran it back for a 50-yard touchdown return. The Hawks then sealed the game with a 60-yard touchdown run to make the final score 20-7.

Tasara went 6-for-10 passing and had 12 tackles. Fish had eight carries for 102 yards and added two touchdowns. Dunken had a 50-yard touchdown run and teammate Ryan McDonald had eight tackles. Finally Brian Guse had three catches for 33 yards.
