Tolt wins game against Hawks

After a bit of a slow start, Tolt Middle School girl’s basketball team raced to a victory over the hard-working Chief Kanim Middle School Hawks. The T-Birds shot a respectable 41 percent in the second half and only committed three turnovers. The final score was 51-8.

Point guard Kylie Schoenbachler had only one turnover for the game and she and Emma Worden scored 10 points, with each having seven steals. Tolt’s three post players, Betsy Anderson, eight points, Becky Gray, six points, and Kristin McKinlay, four blocks, all played good defense while committing only two fouls between them.

“Overall it was a good win in the fact that everyone got considerable playing time and eight different girls scored. The players know we all have a lot of work to do to attain our goals,” said Tolt coach Vern Hough. “We were happy with the outcome of the game considering it was our first outing.”

Hawks secure first win of season

The Chief Kanim Middle School Hawks seventh-grade varsity girls’ basketball team defeated a tough Tolt team last week 34-17. Led by Madison Yakabowski’s 24 points and five steals, the Hawks used a tough defense in the second half to secure their first win of the season.

Coach Blake was pleased with the win and is excited about the Hawk’s hustle. Other Hawk stars include Vica Falcon with six points and four rebounds; Caylene Castagno with four rebounds and three steals; Nikki Stanton with three steals; Cassidy Will with three steals; Traci Hall with two points and two steals; Kayla Stewart with two points; Jessica Paladini with two rebounds; and Mackenzie Peerboom with two rebounds.
