Girls lose to Tolt
Snoqualmie Middle School’s eighth-grade girls’ volleyball team
lost its first game to Tolt Middle School on Monday 15-6, 3-15, 15-8.
However, the team bounced back on Wednesday to defeat Islander
Middle School 15-1, 15-9, 5-15. In game one, Kayla Jayne scored 10 straight
points with powerfully precise serving.
Surprise Lake upends boys
The Snoqualmie Middle School’s junior-varsity football team
battled Surprise Lake last week at home but couldn’t pull out the win, losing
18-13.
The Eagles dominated the first half, with Cody Hyatt scoring
two touchdowns for an SMS lead going into the second half. The two
teams battled each other diligently, but Surprise Lake was able to go up by
a touchdown.
The Eagle offense fought back and was deep in Surprise Lake
territory, on the verge of another touchdown with three minutes left in the game.
Then the Surprise Lake defense stripped the ball, causing a
turnover that Surprise Lake recovered.
The Eagle defense shut down Surprise Lake with key defensive
tackles by Blake Kinghorn, Beau Davis, Drew White and Beau Rotbertillo. The
Eagle offense pushed the ball down to the 30-yard line but ran out of time,
giving Surprise Lake the victory.
Hawks swoop past Ford
The Chief Kanim Middle School’s eighth-grade football team traveled
to Ford to play its first game on Sept. 27, winning 18-0.
Ford was tough as expected, and the first quarter ended at 0-0. In
the second quarter, Erik Tierney broke free for a long run and a first
down near the 10-yard line. Chris Nevins carried it in for the score as he
also dragged in several Ford would-be tacklers. The first half ended with
the Hawks leading 6-0.
In the second half, the Hawks tackled hard and forced several
Ford fumbles. CKMS took advantage behind the running of Jimmie Henrie
and Nevins. Nevins scored on a 52-yard touchdown run as he left Ford
tacklers lying all over the field. Henrie scored on a 50-yard run down the
sidelines outrunning the Ford defense. Chief Kanim did not turn the ball
over and played ball control. The final score ended at 18-0.
CKMS racked up 243 yards rushing, as Nevins had 109, Henrie 79
and Tierney 50. The Hawks also shined on defense as Logan McMackin and
Jake Pearce led the team with four sacks and had great containment.
McMackin also recovered two fumbles. Also recovering fumbles were Marc
Donnell, Nevins and Amy Stauch. Leading tacklers were Tierney, Nick
Bennett, Nevins, Kenny Casem and Zach Elmer. Coaches Mickey Fowler
and Guy Falconer were pleased with the team, especially the leadership
of Tierney, Nevin, McMackin and Pearce. CKMS will travel
to Enumclaw next week and expects a tough game.
