Eagles explode to victory

The Snoqualmie eighth-grade varsity football team opened their season on a thunderous note by running over visiting Tolt.

Receiving the ball to start the game, quarterback Andrew Dunklee led the Eagles as they marched down the field with hard running from tailback Rob Lane and fullback Joe Farmer. The Eagles completed the drive with a Dunklee-to-Derek Welsh reception down the middle for a touchdown. Early in the second quarter, outstanding blocking allowed Welsh to return a kickoff 75 yards for the Eagles second touchdown of the game.

The solid defensive effort of the Eagles forced a turnover on downs on Tolt’s side of the field and the Eagles were quick to capitalize. Running behind the strong line of Caymon Granillo, Kasey Channita, Anthony McLaughlin and Sam Vradenburg, Farmer scored from five yards out. In the second half, the Eagles scored two more touchdowns, one by Welsh and one by Jake Pierce. The strong leg of Jordan Walthall added six extra points and the smash-mouth inside running of Colton Lewis added another, leading the Eagles to a 37-6 victory.

The defense stepped up to some early challenges by Tolt with the aggressive inside play of Lane and Granillo stuffing any inside threat, while Alec Deichman and McLaughlin controlled the outside sweeps, slamming opponents to the turf. Defensive backs Shelby Williams and Erik Meister made some outstanding hits, shutting down any deep threats. It was a great team effort to start their season.

Eagles’ JV boys slam Thunderbirds

The Snoqualmie Middle School’s junior-varsity football team defeated the Tolt Thunderbirds 25-0 Sept. 27. The Eagles were led to victory by T.J. Jacobs on offense and Trevor Lane on defense.

The entire offensive line performed well throughout the game. Other key performers on offense were Shane Dixon and Travis Hilleary. Outstanding defensive plays were made by Sean Batye, Sean Cantalini, John Hillman and Josh Mitchell. Ryan Atkinson, Nick Crandell and Peter Tilton did a great job substituting.

Hawks demolish Eatonville

The Chief Kanim varsity football team trounced Eatonville on the road last week 30-0.

Eatonville had some huge players, but soon found out that determination and quickness beats size. Chief Kanim’s first play went 68 yards for a touchdown as Ian Ilgenfritz hit Ryan Herman down the sidelines. The extra point was run in by Matt Bankston and the Hawks were off and rolling.

Later in the half there were touchdown runs by Justin Bridges and Matt Bankston and another touchdown pass to Ryan Herman giving the Hawks a 27-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, Chief Kanim concentrated on their running attack and ate up some clock. Ryan Herman kicked a 20-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to end the scoring for the game.

Korbin Paulson and Ilgenfritz led the defense in tackles and Ryan Herman and Brian Jewett each had an interception. Jacob Littlejohn had quarterback sack. On offense, Matt Bankston finished the game with 140 yards rushing on 17 carries, Ilgenfritz had over 100 yards in the air and Herman added 108 receiving. The coaches are very proud of the effort but know there is much more work ahead to reach the team’s potential.
