Man celebrates 100 years in Fall City

Chuck Moore is nonchalant about his upcoming birthday Sept. 17. It is, after all, “just another day,” as he says.

However, on that “just another day,” Chuck just happens to turn 100. He was born Sept. 17, 1907, in Fall City to Charlie and Minnie Moore, who had recently moved to the Valley from Ohio. Chuck was the youngest of six children – he had three brothers and two sisters.

Except for a short while after he graduated eighth grade, when he worked on a former teacher’s farm near Mount Vernon and later on a fox farm in Alaska, Chuck spent his entire life in Fall City.

“It’s a good place to live,” he said.

He and his wife Hazel bought a home on five acres that the family turned into a mini farm, where he and Hazel raised three children: Hazel Schlichte, who now lives with him as a caretaker; Chuck, who lives in Nagelle, Ore., and Rita Foster, who passed away last year. The home is the same home where Chuck lives to this day. Though the acreage is down to 3.3 acres today, he still gardens and mows.
