Life number nine a freebie for feline

SNOQUALMIE VALLEY – The cat that wandered onto the property of the Mama’s Hands shelter for women and children in crises last year has gone by many names.

Mommy Kitty, Funny Whisperer and even Lucifer have been some of the monikers for the black and white cat.

Last month, the cat went through an ordeal that should have named it Lucky and Loved after Valley residents and a veterinarian came to the aid of the feline just in time for the holidays.

The cat appeared a short time after Andrea Behr first came to the shelter last July. She had cats while growing up and instantly took to it, an attitude that attached the two quickly.

The cat was not always very gracious. When it wanted to be let back into the house in the middle of the night, it would ram its head into the sliding glass door that leads into the room where Behr sleeps, waking everyone else in the room up and leading to other names for the cat that can’t be printed.

“My first name for it was Lucifer because it was so mean,” Behr said.

Last October the cat’s abdomen started to grow, prompting the rest of the house to expect kittens shortly. The cat also started to act strangely, which didn’t concern the shelter residents too much since they attributed the behavior to the overall attitude of the cat and its impending labor.

By December Behr starting noticing even stranger behavior from the cat. It didn’t like its stomach being touched and started to have nasty discharges.
