Levies now up to voters

SNOQUALMIE VALLEY – Levies to construct a community center in Snoqualmie and provide 24-hour urgent care at Snoqualmie Valley Hospital top what will be decided by area voters when they head to the polls for the general election Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Proposition 1 asks Valley residents to approve a levy lid lift for King County Public Hospital District 4 from 43 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation to 50 cents. The district oversees Snoqualmie Valley Hospital.

The levy increase would allow the hospital to open a 24-hour urgent-care clinic beginning in the spring. The additional 7 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation would generate between $190,000 to $250,000 annually, said Superintendent Jeff Lyle.

He said it’s estimated the urgent-care clinic will cost about $1 million a year to operate and staff, taking in about $750,000 in revenues. The levy increase would fund the rest.
