It’s history: Fall City designation struggle ended by commission

FALL CITY – Although there may have been a resolution to the battle over Fall City’s proposed historic district, everyone involved is walking away from it a little sore.

The four-year debate ended when the King County Landmarks and Heritage Commission unanimously voted on Thursday, Sept. 12, to reject granting historic landmark status to the district, which is bordered on the north by an alley behind the businesses along State Route 202; on the east by an alley behind the businesses on the Preston-Fall City Road; on the south by Southeast 44th Place; and on the west by 334th Place Southeast.

Opponents of the district said too much county money was spent on a fruitless exercise, while supporters were disappointed the proposed neighborhood was not officially named a historic landmark.
