Garcia enters City Council race

NORTH BEND – Chris Garcia, owner of Frankie’s Pizza, is hoping the next order he receives is an appointment and eventual election to the North Bend City Council.

Garcia, a 23-year resident of the city, business owner and Planning Commission member, has announced he will seek the council position to be vacated by Elaine Webber. Webber, who is in the process of selling her house, will be moving to Snoqualmie in the upcoming months rendering her ineligible to hold the council position. Garcia is hoping to be appointed to that position by the current City Council members and plans to seek election to the seat when the term expires in the fall.

“Most people use the slogan, ‘put your money where your mouth is,'” said Garcia. “I think after 3 years [of running a business] I’m the opposite. I’m going to put my mouth where my money is.”

A mainstay at council meetings for the past 2 years, Garcia said he’s ready to bring a different perspective to the group, which he credits for doing a solid job in guiding the city.

“I’m around town all day,” said Garcia. “I see the traffic back up and I see the problems that face us downtown.”

It’s that traffic that Garcia sites as one of the biggest obstacles facing the economic development of the city.
