Firefighting not option for station

SNOQUALMIE – If the new fire station for the city of Snoqualmie is approved by voters and built near the intersection of Snoqualmie Parkway and State Route 202, there will not be a station downtown.

That is the feeling for the time being anyway.

The Snoqualmie City Council unanimously approved a resolution at its Monday, Aug. 26, meeting that will prohibit the present fire station, located at 38624 S.E. River St., from being used as fire station if the new $3.6 million facility is constructed.

Rather than housing a fire station or substation in the future, a committee to be formed by the mayor and approved by council will investigate possible future uses of the old facility and land. No specific uses were recommended by the council.

The resolution, introduced by Councilman Matt Larson, replaced an earlier resolution on the agenda that was similar but included specific language stating the existing facility could be used for a fire station or substation.
