A series of chain reaction crashes involving five semi-trucks, numerous cars and a state trooper’s vehicle shut down Interstate-90 last week near North Bend. The sliding and crashes began around 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16.
Only minor injuries were reported but westbound lanes of the highway were closed for hours between mileposts 34 and 40, backing up traffic for more than three miles as crews removed the spun-out vehicles.
In the initial crash, a passenger vehicle rolled over. North Bend tow truck driver Dave Dahl of Snoqualmie Valley Towing and a Washington State Patrol officer were stopped at the scene of the crash when an Atlas Van Lines semi lost control and started sliding down the highway.
