FEMA help is available

Only a month past the November flooding, many people are still struggling to pay for repairs. On Dec. 21, the state of Washington and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) signed an agreement that released disaster assistance funds of more than $550,000 for residents and business owners who suffered losses during the Nov. 2-11 floods.

Residents in King County are eligible to receive funds. Residents who sustained flood damage may register with FEMA to apply for help by calling (800) 621-FEMA from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, or visiting www.FEMA.gov.

Residents may also visit Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) located in Puyallup, Monroe and Granite Falls. These centers will operate Mondays through Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

A DRC was not set up in the Snoqualmie Valley because the only place that might have worked – the Snoqualmie Tribe headquarters in Snoqualmie – wasn’t suitable due to space limitations, said Clarence Howell, FEMA public information officer.
