Does Snoqualmie’s new vision plan have a problem with parking?

Snoqualmie City Councilman Charles Peterson thinks so.

Peterson voiced his objections to parking changes under the new Downtown Vision Plan approved Monday, April 23, by the Snoqualmie City Council.

While the vision plan identifies a 90-stall gain if the ideas come to fruition, Peterson said that the goal of eliminating lots off state Route 202 at King Street and River Street in favor of new retail space isn’t a good idea.

“It’s not enough in the right area,” Peterson said. “These 90 gains are not close. It’s quite a way from the business district. It’s another long walk.”

The city owns the right of way along the railroad tracks east of River Street, but Peterson doubts that Snoqualmie has the resources to turn that space into parking lots anytime soon.

“We don’t have a place today for those people,” he said.

The empty lot at SR 202 and King Street is an important place for city events, according to Peterson.
