NORTH BEND – A Mount Vernon man was charged this week after leading three law enforcement agencies on a chase over two counties that ended outside North Bend.
Geoffrey Wilcox, 47, was arrested after being treated for self-inflicted injuries that were incurred during a 50-mile chase during the early morning hours of Oct. 16.
According to law enforcement officials, Wilcox was stopped just before midnight on Oct. 15 by a Kittitas County Sheriff’s deputy who had seen Wilcox’s vehicle driving erratically near Cle Elum. When the driver refused to pull over, the sheriff’s office called the Washington State Patrol for help.
Troopers set up spike strips at three locations along a 10-mile stretch west of Snoqualmie Pass while the sheriff’s deputy chased Wilcox at speeds of about 50 mph. Two of the strips damaged the tires on the van Wilcox was driving, and he eventually pulled over at about 12:40 a.m. west of North Bend near the State Route 18 interchange.
