City Hall to be reinforced

The Snoqualmie City Council on Monday passed on ordinance that allows the city to stabilize earthquake-damaged City Hall so crews can finish work on the River Street improvement project.

Plywood will be used to ensure the building’s walls hold as heavy road equipment finishes improvements along River Street in front of City Hall. Without the reinforcement, itOs feared the building, which boasts several large cracks caused by the Feb. 28 Nisqually Earthquake, wouldnOt be able to withstand the vibrations coming from the nearby work.

“If you just run a heavy truck down there, you can watch those walls shake,”said City Administrator Gary Armstrong.

The city will solicit bids to stabilize the building, which will be paid for by the city’s insurance carrier.
