City Council passes first major changes to comp plan

NORTH BEND – Seven years after it was adopted, the first amendments to North Bend’s comprehensive plan have been approved by the City Council, further detailing how future growth will occur in the city.

To some, the amendments represent a chance to fix a flawed plan originally ratified in 1995. To others, the amendments are flawed themselves.

This first round of comprehensive plan amendments were more than two years in the making. They cover everything from how to transition neighborhoods from residential to commercial zoning, to environmental restrictions to growth to preserving open space that acts as a buffer between North Bend and Snoqualmie.

The amendments were approved by the City Council at its June 17 meeting by a 4-1 vote, with council members Elaine Webber, Ed Carlson, Bill Wittress and Jack Webber voting for them and Councilman Mark Sollitto voting against them.
