Chief Kanim Middle School eighth-grader Kristin Heath
vaulted over her competitors at the Region II meet on April 7. She received
second place on the uneven bars with a score of 8.95, second place on the floor
with a 9.325, second place on beam with a 9.425 and did well on vault with
a score of 8.725.
Region II includes Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Oregon, Montana and
Washington. Heath,14, came in fourth place “all around” with her
season-high score of 36.425. Heath has been competing since the age of eight, and
is excited for the upcoming event.
“I like competing and traveling — it’s fun,” she said. “I like bars the
best, but I’m also good at beam. It feels like I’m flying on dismount.”
Heath is one of eight top finishers in the region to be competing in
the Western National Junior Olympics on April 30, in Bartlesville, Okla.
