Changing for the better

NORTH BEND – City officials unveiled their new Public Works facility at a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week, and employees wasted little time moving into their new state-of-the-art digs, located at 1155 E. North Bend Way.

Crews broke ground on the $2.7 million project in June 2001. The new facility has three structures that will contain Public Works staff, equipment, a maintenance center and plenty of room for storage.

The project replaces inadequate facilities at 400 Bendigo Blvd. N. that are more than 50 years old. Employees there had to sometimes share office space with rats, and the building sported bullet holes.

“We finally have a quality facility for our quality crew,” said North Bend Mayor Joan Simpson.
