Centenarian looks back on long life

This Friday, North Bend resident Ruby Tupen will cross the century threshold.
Tupen, a transplanted Californian, has called the Valley home for the last decade, moving here to remain close to her family. She lives with daughter Faith Sanchez, and has four generations of her family in the same neighborhood.
Over the last century, she’s lived through two world wars, experienced countless changes and new inventions and is the head of a family that includes 14 great-grandchildren.
Tupen was born and raised in Gridley, Calif., a country town near Sacramento. Most of her life was spent in small towns in the vicinity of the California capital. Now, the little towns are built up and Tupen was glad to come to the Snoqualmie Valley 11 years ago with her daughter.
