The Mount Si High School track and field teams had nice results at last week’s Kingco Championships at Liberty High School.

The Wildcat boys finished second in the league with 108 points scored, and had some excellent efforts.

The team was led by senior Frank McLaughlin, who won the 100, 200, and 400 meter races and qualified for districts in those events. Colin Alexander had solid runs in the 400 and 800 meter races, finishing second and fourth respectively. Drake da Ponte finished third in the 800, and second in the 1,600 meter. Mount Si’s boys also won the 4-by-400 meter relay, and finished a solid fifth in the 4-by-100 event.

Brandon Roddewig had a solid meet as well, finishing third in both the high jump and long jump, and second in the pole vault. His 6-02.00in the high jump earned him a district berth.

Five Wildcats made waves in the discus, led by Aaron Moetului’s fourth place finish; he had a throw of 135-11. Kyle Stevens led the javelin contingent, finishing sixth overall. In the shot put, Ryan Ransavage led a solid effort, winning his Wednesday heat with a 45-02.50 throw. Carter Howell and Jake Tweten finished third in their respective heats.

There were a couple of events in which Mount Si did not have a finalist, and those were in the 110 and 300 hurdles, where Colin Van Slyke finished seventh in those events’ preliminary second heats and did not make the final cut. The top eight times from two combined heats made the finals in both competitions.

On the girls’ side, another strong effort was delivered by Wildcat athletes. In the 100, Helen Hasbun finished fourth with a time of 12.94. Kayla McLain finished sixth in the 200, and Katie Woolsey finished third in the 400 meter race.

Alex Rudd finished 13th in the 1,600 meter, but had better luck in the 3,200, finishing seventh. Diane Keller punched a ticket to districts in the 100 hurdles, finishing second, just an eyelash short of the title, won by Skyline’s Kiara Williams. Hannah Hasbun finished eighth in the 300 hurdles.

Mount Si’s relay teams had an excellent showing, finishing fourth in the 4-by-100; third in the 4-by-200, and seventh in the 4-by-400.

Field events were the strength of the Wildcat girls’ effort. Stephanie Burk won the high jump, with a 5-01.00 score, sending her to districts. Keller finished tied for ninth in the event. Symone Shaw joined Burk en route to Seattle with a win in the long jump with a jump of 16-09.75. Helen Hasbun finished fourth in her heat there. Shaw took home fifth in the triple jump, leading the Mount Si contingent there, and Alisha Larion brought home a second place effort in the shot put, leading a strong Wildcat charge. Katelyn Walker finished fourth, Molly Meyers sixth, and Kelsey Tarp closed out with a seventh-place mark.

Woolsey finished eighth to lead a pack of Mount Si athletes in the middle of the javelin events. That pack included Walker, Meyers and Emily Ferree.

There were a couple of events that were not represented by Wildcats. Those included the pole vault, where the three Mount Si competitors did not register a score. Also, in the 800 meter race, Dannah Parsons finished sixth and Megan Past fifth in their respective heats, missing the finals.

The district meet is this week in Seattle, and the state meet is next week in Pasco.
