The Mount Si girls tennis team is looking forward to a new season
with eight returners. Ten varsity players and 19 JV players fill the ranks of a
quickly growing Valley sport. With the addition of two new tennis courts, the
team was able to keep five more players than last year.
Returning as the coach, now in her third year, is Sue Gallacher.
Gallacher has high hopes for her squad but also realizes the competition in KingCo
is some of the best in state.
“It’s very hard to compete in our league because we are playing
Mercer Island, Bellevue, Sammamish and Newport and those kids are playing all
year long where most of our kids do not,” said Gallacher.
The varsity team has four seniors, all veterans of the sport. They
include Amber Bliven, Crystal DiCarlo, who cheered last year but came back to
the team this year, Ariah Nobe and Jessii Raisio.
“All of the players are really even, one through six could be different
each week,” said Gallacher. “Number six right now could be number one in
two months,” she continued.
The team hopes to finish in the middle of the KingCo pack. Their
first match is at home on March 28 against Sammamish. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
