By sea, by land, by desert

NORTH BEND – When Jinks Snow was growing up, she told herself she wanted to live in three different places.
The first was by the ocean, which thankfully was not too far away from the island she was born on in the San Diego harbor. But although she was born in California, Snow spent her formative years in the Netherlands, giving her a knowledge of Dutch she can now barely remember. While she grew up, her Army family moved around the world, living in Europe, Asia and America.
“You name it, I have probably lived there or passed through,” Snow said.
When Snow graduated from high school, she was back in California and went to California Polytechnic, where she got, as she put it, “the ever useful and important degree in English.”
“I got a B.A. in B.S.,” Snow joked.
She followed it up with an elementary teaching certificate and taught for a year, only to find she didn’t like teaching. After self-diagnosing herself with a “job deficit disorder,” Snow went on to sell real estate.
She eventually started to work for a company that sold title insurance, a job that proved to be fun until she was picked to post foreclosure notices when the market went down. Snow has many stories of avoiding dogs and angry homeowners while trying to legally post signs in the gated communities of Monterey County, Calif.
She lived close to the ocean on the Monterey Peninsula and used her teaching certificate to serve as an instructor for real-estate classes at a community college.
