Book includes Valley trails

Arlington author Paul Hodge used to travel by rail, taking more than 20 cross country treks by train.

Today, many of those train tracks have been replaced by trails, allowing another kind of travel. Hodge has described more than a dozen trails in his new book, “Lowland Trails of Greater Seattle,” including the Snoqualmie Valley Trail and the Preston-Snoqualmie Trail.

The book includes maps and photos, both historic and modern. The history of the trails is a particular interest to Hodge, and he includes ample examples of how the trails came to be and what they were in prior incarnations.

“Nationwide, the presence of these trails has had a very positive effect on the communities they pass through,” Hodge said. “That seems true for the ones in our region too.”

The book is self-published.
