NORTH BEND – One would be hard pressed to find anyone who has more invested, personally and professionally, in Children’s Services of Sno-Valley (CSSV) than Nancy Whitaker.
She first went to CSSV when she was pregnant in 1980 after finding out that one of her twins would be born with Down syndrome, a developmental disorder. The organization was founded by Valley residents in the 1960s who wanted children with developmental disabilities to have educational opportunities not offered in local school districts.
Since getting involved with some parenting classes at CSSV for her son, she has been a steady presence in the organization. She became a board member and was then hired on in 1986 to help develop a support group for parents of children with disabilities.
She eventually made her way to administration and for the past six years has been the director of programs, serving as interim executive director when John Stout left that post last November.
Last month, she was confirmed by a search committee as the new executive director for CSSV.
