Audit finds fault with school district

The Washington State Auditor raised some caution signs on how the Snoqualmie Valley School District reports enrollment, staffing and transportation, and how the district handles closed meeting sessions in its latest audit of district policies, made every other year.

Looking to see whether the district followed state law, regulations and its own policies, the auditor’s office focused on the period between September 2004 and August 2006.

Auditors provided the district’s management with a letter spelling out the questionable routines.

“We always refer to management letters as yellow lights,” said Auditor’s Office spokeswoman Mindy Chambers. “If you don’t get it fixed, it’s something we could report as a finding next time around.”

The latest recommendations are being incorporated into district policies, said Kristy Sullivan, president of the Snoqualmie Valley School District Board of Directors.

“We have adjusted and are adjusting some of the practices,” Sullivan said.
