Area boys earn Eagle rank

Reaching the Eagle Rank in Boy Scouts is no easy task. Jordan Sypher and Tom Perry of Boy Scout Troop 701 will tell you that. Both boys were recognized for achieving Eagle Scout rank Tuesday, Dec. 26, at the Eagles Court of Honor in North Bend at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
To achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, Scouts must earn at least 21 merit badges in different areas and pass through the ranks of Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life and finally Eagle.
Scouts must also complete a community service project, Perry said. This project can’t be for a business or individual and it can’t be a fundraiser, Sypher said. Scouts also can’t count an activity that is done with the Boy Scouts organization.
Sypher, 18, a senior at Mount Si High School, chose to built a kiosk for the Fall City Cemetery as his project. The kiosk, a three-walled, cement-floored structure, contains two maps of the cemetery and its grave markers to help visitors navigate.
