NORTH BEND – A proposed plan by the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) to build a 500-kilovolt transmission line between its Kangley substation and the Echo Lake facility near North Bend has been given the thumbs up by the city of Seattle.
The agreement reached last week puts to rest months of wrangling between the two groups over the 9-mile transmission line aimed at enhancing power transmission both within King County and to Canada.
Bonneville said the new line is needed to bolster reliability of power transmission in the King County area, especially during peak winter hours, and to supply power to Canada as required by federal treaty. The company said the line will minimize the risk of having to cut back power in the county during extreme cold weather.
