144 Ridge students to attend SES next fall

All five members of the Snoqualmie Valley School District Board of Directors voted to impact the smallest number of students in a boundary change to take effect this fall.

The board unanimously chose option D, moving 144 students in the Ironwood and Abbey Road neighborhoods from Cascade View Elementary to Snoqualmie Elementary School, during a special meeting held last Thursday, April 26, at Snoqualmie Middle School.

That option had already been given top priority by members of the district’s Elementary Attendance Boundary Review Advisory Committee.

Board members urged the community to work to minimize the impact of one of the most unpopular decisions that schools and communities deal with.

“Boundary changes are universally considered the worst thing we have to do,” boardmember Rick Krona said.

“Each of us will do our best to model to our kids the best coping skills,” board president Kristy Sullivan said. “We need to reach out to each other and support each other as a community.”

“The decision we make tonight is a decision that we thought of carefully,” said boardmember Rudy Edwards. “We’ve read every e-mail, we’ve talked to the public at large … If you want to talk with me, you can do that.
