Snoqualmie Valley community network’s award winners ‘Rise and Shine’

Every June, dozens of caring and dedicated community volunteers are recognized at the Snoqualmie Valley Community Network’s Rise and Shine Breakfast. Most of these individuals prefer that they remain anonymous in their acts of kindness, selfless volunteering and passionate caring efforts. But the network realizes the importance of allowing these altruistic individuals to “shine” and to receive acclaim.

Every June, dozens of caring and dedicated community volunteers are recognized at the Snoqualmie Valley Community Network’s Rise and Shine Breakfast.

Most of these individuals prefer that they remain anonymous in their acts of kindness, selfless volunteering and passionate caring efforts. But the network realizes the importance of allowing these altruistic individuals to “shine” and to receive acclaim.

Award recipients at 15th Annual Rise and Shine Awards ceremony, held Thursday, June 2, at Camp River Ranch in Carnation, included:

• Glynis Bawden and Greg Bawden, for modifying and changing institutional and governmental policies;

• Jen Heger, Merle Judd, Jessica Kits, Barbara Nickles, Sally Rasmussen, Debbie McGrath, Karen Miller, Rhonda Oord, Pamela Parks, Laura Tisdale, and Jennifer Fisher, for providing support and opportunities for children that enhance protection and strengthen communities.

• Sue Eastgard, recipient of the 2011 Professional Legacy Award. Now retiring as the Executive Director for the Youth Suicide Prevention Program, Eastgard has championed prevention efforts since 1997.

• Josh Denison, a senior at Cedarcrest High School, who received the 2011 Youth Legacy Award. Denison is one of the founders of the Riverview Youth Council. He and a dedicated group of young volunteers aspire to “Be the Change” in their community, by providing education, increasing knowledge and raising awareness of substance abuse, and bullying prevention.
