Mount Si High School’s track and field teams held their own against a big Bellevue contingent Thursday, March 24, dominating relay and field events and giving the Wolverines some tight competition at distance and sprints.

Girls races

In the women’s events, Wildcat sophomore Ashley Jackson cruised in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles, besting a field of Wolverines with times of 18.2 and 52.1 seconds.

“My form was correct and I nailed it. That’s pretty good for this early in the season,” she said.

Mount Si’s Leslie Stevens dominated javelin with a throw of 98’11. Lexi Swanson beat all comers at pole vault with an 8’6 vault, and tied with Bellevue’s Cahill for first with a 4’4 high jump.

Swanson, a junior, and Hannah Richmond, a sophomore, both came within six inches of their 2010 personal records.

“My PR is nine. I have yet to reach that this season,” but Swanson has been consistently hitting 8.6. She needs more practice with a new pole. “I’m still proud of what I did.”

Jackson took first in the long jump with 15’0.75 jump, followed by Scott at 14 feet.

Sophie Rockow dominated in the triple jump with 32’5.5, a lifetime personal record. She was followed by Leslie Stevens and Guyer.

Rockow was inspired to excel thanks to some friendly competition with Guyer, a freshman.

Guyer “started improving by a lot,” she said. “That drove me to do better. She pushed me a lot today.”

Wildcats Abbey Bottemiller, Rachel Finnegan, Jesse Guyer and Sophoe Rockow led the 4X200 relay, and Lindsay Kirby, Christina Volken, Jackson and Bailey Scott led in the 4X400 relay with 4:31.2.

In the 4X100 relay, Finnegan, Madeleine Hutchison, Kennedi Norris and Sydney Dore took second between Bellevue squads with 57.3.

“It was our first real relay,” said Finnegan, a senior. “We only practiced yesterday. We did really well. I’m sure we’ll improve.”

In the 100 meter race, Rockow tied for third with Bellevue’s Alli Cahill at 13.5 seconds. She took second in the 200 meter race with 28.4.

Mount Si junior Lindsay Kirby dominated the 400 meter race at 67 seconds, and sophomore Christina Volken led the 800 meter race at 2:33.

Boys races

Mount Si’s boys field athletes dominated the Wolverines. Mens’ sprint and distance runners, like the girls, had tighter competition, but still found ways to medal.

At shotput, Mount Si junior Kolton Auxier led all comers with a 51’3.5 throw. Senior Zach Storm dominated discus with a 133’10” hurl, while sophomore  Bradley Stevens led javeline with a 181’11” throw.

At high jump, Mount Si’s Jon Proctor and Ryan Olson tied for first with Bellevue’s Stephen Ryder with 5’4″ leaps.

Mount Si sophomore Jimbo Davis took second with a 10 foot pole vault.

Mount Si junior Elijah Mayfield led the pack with a 17’6.75″ long jump. With no Bellevue competition, Mayfield also took first with a 34’5.5 inch triple jump score. This is his first year competing in the event.

In the 110 meter hurdles, Mount Si’s Nate Chase and Bradley Stevens led the pack with times of 17.8 and 18 seconds. Freshman Jon Proctor took fourth with 20.3 seconds.

Chase, Davis, Justin McLaughlin and Button dominated the 4X400 relay with a time of 3:52.1

In the 4X100 relay, Mount Si senior Kaleb Huerta, junior Mason Bragg, Davis and sophomore Tyler Button took second with 44.8, between two Bellevue contingents.

In the 100 meter race, Huerta tied for third with 11.7 seconds. He took second in the 200 meter race, following Bellevue’s Ari Morales by a tenth of a second with 23.9. He was closely followed by Button with 24 and Bragg with 24.1

In the 800 meter race, Ryan Olson, Dominick Canady and AJ Brevick claimed the fourth, fifth and sixth slots.

In the 3200 meter race, Mount Si’s Richard Carmichael, Tom Kirby, Ben Houldridge and Tim Corrie claimed spots five through eight.
