The Wildcats went into the league tournament as the dual meet league champions followed closely by the Issaquah Eagles. They came out of the tournament as tournament champs and were recognized for their sportsmanship by winning the league’s sportsmanship award.

A senior-laden team will send four wrestlers to the regional tournament in Squalicum as league champions. Three-time league champion Kyle Heath will wrestle at 112 pounds, followed by Vince Vasquez at 140 pounds, Mac Donnell at 189 pounds and Dexter Moetului at 215 pounds.

In addition to the champions, eight other wrestlers and two alternates will make the trip to Squalicum.

Mount Si also won honors for coaching as Kyle Jacobsen won Assistant Coach of the Year for the second year in a row. “I wasn’t sure I was going to get it because of my work schedule,” said Jacobsen. “It’s an honor that the coaches recognize it, it’s cool.”

In the finals, Heath started the action at 112 pounds as he pinned Issaquah’s Ben Tickman with 11.2 seconds left in the first round. “I knew that I could get it, and my goal was to get a first-round pin in the finals and I did,” said Heath. It was the third time Heath had been crowned Kingco champion at 112 pounds.

The next champion for Mount Si would be Vince Vasquez, wrestling Issaquah’s Jacob Borin at 140 pounds. Borin had defeated the Wildcat earlier in the season, but this time Vasquez was prepared. Vasquez easily controlled the match scoring in each round and winning a 10-5 decision. The win further distanced Mount Si from the second-place Eagles.
