SNOQUALMIE VALLEY – The Snoqualmie Valley Wildcat Junior Football and Cheerleading Association is getting ready to embark on a new era. The 2005 season is slated to be the first season for junior football in the new Mount Si High School stadium, and coach Charlie Kinnune couldn’t be happier.
“We’re really excited about moving into our new facilities,” said Kinnune, who, in addition to being the head football coach at Mount Si HIgh School, also serves on the board with the Snoqualmie Valley Wildcat junior football program.
The Snoqualmie Valley Wildcat junior football and cheerleading program serves boys and girlsages 7-14. It was formed three years ago after the dissolution of the Sno-Valley Vikings youth football program.
There will be two opportunities to register players and cheerleaders. One will be April 2 at the Mount Si High School library in Snoqualmie from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The other will be on on the same day at the Snoqualmie Valley Little League baseball jamboree at Torguson Park. The season is set to start in August.
The cost to enroll an athlete or cheerleader in the association is $195, which includes the team jersey and socks or cheerleading uniform. There will be a $10 discount for each additional child from the same family that will be participating in either the football or cheerleading programs. Participants will be allowed to keep their uniforms, regardless of whether they’re playing or cheerleading, following completion of the season.
Parents are strongly urged to bring a copy of their child’s birth certificate when they come to register. Once enough players are signed up to create a team at a given age and weight level, additional players who sign up at that age and weight level will be placed on a waiting list until there are enough players to fill another team. It is important that parents sign their kids up as soon as possible. After June 1, the fee to participate will go up to $245.
There are football camps connected to the Junior Wildcat program scheduled this summer as well. The camps are at Centennial Fields in Snoqualmie. A camp for players ages 7-10 will occur July 18-21, and a camp for players ages 11-14 will take place July 25-28. Both camps will be held from 6-8:30 p.m. The cost to attend this camp is $75 a player. Registration for these camps will occur at the same time as the football sign-ups.
