Wildcat softball team devours Kangs, moves on to Bellevue today

The Mount Si softball team’s hitters were firing on all cylinders Thursday, May 12, powering a 12-2 win over Lake Washington in the league tourney opener.

After a scoreless first inning, the Kangs put one on the board, followed by Mount Si’s two in the second; the ‘Cats followed with three more runs in the third and fourth, but things really opened up in the sixth inning, seven runs that ended it due to the mercer rule.

Mount Si had 18 hits, seven in the sixth—one a line-shot homer over the scoreboard by senior Carly Weidenbach, the other a game-ending dinger to center by Rachael Picchena.

“I totally wanted it,” said Picchena, who was two for four with a run and three RBI’s besides the dinger.

Moved up in the lineup, Celine Fowler went three for three at the plate, claiming a run, an RBI  and a walk.

“We all kept our composure when they scored,” said the fleet-footed freshman.

Mount Si plays Bellevue at 3 p.m. today at home. The winner plays the league’s number one seed, Juanita, at 5 p.m.

“I want to see a win,” senior Kassidy Maddux said of the Bellevue matchup. “It’s time to show them what we’re made of, now that we’ve got all our teammates back.”
