Wildcat girls golf off to tough start

Mount Si’s girls’ golf team took last week off after starting out the season with losses in their opening two matches of the spring.

There has been one bright spot, though, and it is no surprise. Junior Maggie Robinson has led the way for the Wildcats, which was expected to occur, as she is the top returner for the team this season.

Robinson took home medalist, or top individual, honors for Mount Si’s match March 25 at Liberty. She carded a round of 46, but it was not enough as the Wildcats fell 291-249 (lower score wins) to the Patriots. Danielle Burns fired a 57 to pace the Mount Si efforts at Maplewood Golf Club in Renton, while Tori Braunston (47) and Aspen Winegar (49) both led Liberty.

Mount Si then hosted Newport March 27 at Mount Si Golf Course, and once again, Robinson led the way, but the Knights handed the Wildcats a 275-226 defeat. Isabel Chien’s round of 40 was good enough for the medalist trophy, while Robinson fired a score of 44 to lead Mount Si, an improvement of two strokes from her Liberty round.

Genna Magnan carded a round of 53 to pace the Wildcats, while Burns and Julia Dorn (each with rounds of 55) also held their own despite struggling on the par-36 Mount Si GC nine-hole layout.

Mount Si will return to action next week with a Tuesday contest at Bear Creek Country Club in Redmond against the Redmond Mustangs, then they return home next Thursday with a date against the Eastlake Wolves. The Redmond match starts at 3:00 p.m., with the home Eastlake match teeing off at 3:30.
