The Mount Si baseball team opened the season March 12 with a game at home against the Metro League’s West Seattle Wildcats. Mount Si’s Wildcats did their best offensively, but it was the group from Seattle that took home the victory, using two big innings and tough pitching to post a 9-4 decision.

“I think they’re [West Seattle] a little more experienced than we are, they’ve got a few more upperclassmen. [I] think that was the difference,” said Mount Si coach Gary McGregor.

West Seattle scored in the second inning to open the proceedings, but the Wildcats quickly tied it at 1-1 in the bottom of the frame after Dan Reeves scored on a passed ball. Mount Si took the lead 2-1 in the bottom of the third when Blake Hepner scored on a groundout by Zack Robinson. West Seattle re-took the lead in the fourth with a three-spot and added five more runs combined in the sixth and seventh innings to take the win. Mount Si scored one run apiece in the fifth and seventh innings, but strong pitching from West Seattle prevented Mount Si from doing any more damage. The Valley’s best left the bases loaded twice in the game, 11 runners total.
