Week in Sports

A look at Mount Si sports for the week.

JV team falls to Issaquah

On a soggy day the Wildcat JV softball team traveled to Issaquah and played one of their better games in spite of taking a 5-4 loss. Tricia Coccia had her best day at the plate with three hits, including two doubles, and Danae Englund scored two runs and boomed a double herself. Faith Hutcherson singled in the fifth inning and scored the tying run.

The girls couldn’t hold the lead as the Eagles scored two in their half of the inning taking the victory. Amy Ferree made two great catches in left field.

Mount Si drops game to Liberty

The Mount Si JV softball team played tough against league-leading Liberty, falling 2-7. At the end of the fourth inning the score was tied 2-2. Liberty scored in the fifth to take the lead and in the top of the seventh, two throwing errors opened the gates as the Patriots were victorious.

Danae Englund continued with the hot bat, blasting a double in the first, and Katie Brett helped her pitching effort as she got on twice. Pinch runner Kali Walker scored both runs for the Wildcats and Lynnae McKiernan blasted two singles for RBIs.

Mount Si pounds Islanders

The Mount Si JV softball team traveled to Mercer Island recently and notched their final win of the season in style, 11-0.

The team mixed up positions to give everyone a chance to see the game from a different perspective. Faith Hutcherson played some shortstop and had three hits and three RBIs. Danae Englund blasted three singles and played in right field for the first time. Lynnae McKiernan stole home and scored four runs while Kali Walker got to catch her second game of the season. Tricia Coccia picked up the pitching win, and Alicia Elmore also pitched three innings and blasted a double in what was a fun conclusion to the season.

The girls ended up with an 8-7 record (9-7 if the forfeit by Bellevue early in the season is taken into account).

Varsity players place

Several Mount Si varsity tennis players placed in the recent league tournament. Ericka Strine placed in the top eight. Alina Plavsky, Nicole Vanoerek and Britta Safstrom placed in the top 12.

Somers advances

Freshman standout golfer Katie Somers placed sixth at the Kingco League Medalist Tournament held at Riverbend golf course. The sixth-place finish score of 86 advances her to the Sea-King district tournament.
