Two Valley youth girls’ soccer teams squared off Tuesday, Nov. 25, for the right to advance to a big state youth soccer tournament.

The North Bend Roadrunners and Fall City FC under-14 teams competed at Mount Si High School for the Washington Youth Soccer Association’s District II title, and the right to be the district’s representative at the upcoming WYSA Presidents’ Cup semifinals, held in Burlington.

In what turned out to be a classic, the Roadrunners, comprised of players who go to Twin Falls Middle School, got a pair of goals from Christine Stapleton in a 2-0 win over Fall City, whose players go to Chief Kanim.

“We’re moving on, Burlington,” said Roadrunners coach Jim Larson, as his team got both Stapleton goals in the second half of the contest. He is assisted by Jody Larson. Both teams played very well, and showed why local youth soccer is very strong right now. Jim Larson says good coaching is key.

“(I) just tell them to play as hard as they possibly can, all the time,” he said.

In addition to the Roadrunners, two other local teams, a boys under-12 team and boys under-16 team, both coached by Greg Roark, also made the state event in Burlington.

All three teams are part of the Snoqualmie Valley Youth Soccer Association, which is the local affiliate of the Washington youth soccer association.

The SVYSA provides boys and girls all over the Valley the opportunity to compete in the sport, and has clubs in all the Valley communities serving youth ages 7 to 17. For more information, go to the organization’s Web site, www.snvysa.org.
