Newport beats Mount Si

Mount Si’s varsity baseball team gave up 11 runs on 16 hits last Monday in its 11-1 loss to Newport.

Aaron Svarthumle, Matt Poth and Brent Clarke each had hits for the Wildcats, with Svarthumle scoring a run. Dan Flood pitched until the third inning, when Poth came in to relieve him. Newport scored five runs in the third inning on six hits, and six runs in the fifth inning on seven hits.

Haakenson excels in meet

Mount Si’s Dan Haakenson competed at the Pasco Invitational track meet on April 14 and took third place in the discus and hammer throw.

His discus throw of 165 feet, 4 inches, is currently the best in the KingCo 3A League. His hammer throw of 158 feet, 4, inches ranks him 23rd in the nation for the year.

C-team loses to Roosevelt

The Wildcat Soccer C-team hosted Roosevelt last Tuesday and lost by a score of 2-1.

Tyler Austin scored a goal in the first half, and Mount Si dominated the entire game displaying great offensive and defensive skills. But Roosevelt broke through the defense line and scored two goals in the second half to clinch the win.

Newport thumps ‘Cats

The Mount Si junior-varsity softball team lost to Newport last Monday 9-4. Rachel Godfrey, Rachelle Starkel and Chondra Rappin each had two hits, and Ashley Beck, Jenna Maloney and Leela Bilow each had one hit. Sabrina Porterfield hit a double.

Girls lose in golf


The Mount Si girls’ golf team lost to Newport last Monday by a score of 260-284. Newport stole the first three spots with scores of 46 by Laura Hanssen, 48 by Nicole Wilde and 50 for Bonnie Lee, while Mount Si’s Jessica Avery scored a 53. Jess Sanford followed with a 55, Erica Jepson scored 58 and Jessie Potter and Stacy Schultz each had 59s.

Cedarcrest loses narrowly

Interlake beat Cedarcrest in girls’ golf last Monday by a score of 250-260. The winner for Interlake was Kate Menlove, who finished with a 43. Cedarcrest’s Bri Medley tied Interlake’s Allison Albrecht for second place with a put of 47, and Michelle Whyman putted a 49 for the Red Wolves, taking third place. Interlake currently leads the league 5-1, and Cedarcrest is tied for second place (4-1) with Bellevue.

Issaquah tops Red Wolves

The Cedarcrest softball team continued the effort to raise its league record above .300 last week but fell short with its 6-3 loss against Issaquah, who out-hit and out-ran Cedarcrest with six runs on 10 hits.

Annie Ehler of Cedarcrest went 2-3, and Christine Harder and Whitney Short each had RBI’s. Cedarcrest now sits in sixth place at .300, tied with Mount Si.

C-team falls to Garfield

The Mount baseball Si C-team lost a close 6-5 game against the Garfield Bulldogs last Tuesday.

The Wildcats came from behind in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score 3-3 when Ben Kruse and Alec Sattler scored on a double by Curtis Dorr. After the ‘Dogs had three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, Justin Lewis and Luke Landdeck scored two runs for the Wildcats in the top of the eighth, but the ‘Cats wound up one run short of a win.

Dorr was 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two RBIs. Lewis went 1-for-4 with two runs scored, and Landdeck scored one run. Jim Nyberg went 2-for-4, Kruse went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run scored. Mike Lindor pitched seven innings with three earned runs and one strikeout.

Baseball team repeats loss


Mount Si’s baseball C-team lost another close 6-5 game to an undefeated Issaquah squad last Wednesday.

The Wildcats trailed 6-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning but rallied to score five runs off five hits and a walk. Zach Krammar lined a double into center with the bases loaded and two outs to keep the rally alive. At the plate, Jim Nyberg broke up the no-hitter in the seventh, followed with hits by Justin Lewis, Aaron Barquist, Luke Landdeck, Evan Hillburn and Krammer. On the mound, Jason Smith threw six strikeouts and four walks, and Alex Vandeveren pitched the last two innings striking out four batters and giving up two earned runs and two walks.

Soccer team suffers upset


The Cedarcrest varsity soccer team lost 2-1 against Interlake last Tuesday bringing them to 2-6-1 for the season.

The lone Cedarcrest goal was scored by Ben Quayle with an assist from Jimmy Vandanacker. Both Interlake goals were scored by Luke Thevenet, who is eighth in the league in goals scored.
