Despite 12 points from Nicci Landdeck, the Mount Si Wildcats girls’ basketball team could not defeat the Skyline Spartans, losing 58-41.

Mount Si routs Eastlake

The Mount Si Wildcats used strong, at times stifling, defense and great rebounding to demolish Eastlake 63-39 Saturday night before a sparse crowd in non-league girls’ basketball action at Mount Si High School.

Kristen Travis had 14 points to lead all scorers for Mount Si, and Nicci Landdeck added 12 points.

“Yeah, it was real frustrating last night, and it’s really nice to get a win today,” said Travis, talking about her team’s win after having lost Friday night at Skyline.

The ‘Cats started things off by outscoring Eastlake 23-5 in the first quarter, and from that point on, there was no looking back. Rebounding and defense were key.

“I thought we did pretty good on our rebounding, and our defense was excellent,” said Travis.

A number of players had steals for Mount Si, including Landdeck, Rachel Travis, and Whitney Beyerlin. The ‘Cats also forced many jump balls and had aggressive rebounding as well.

Mount Si Coach Dirk Hansen attributed the strong efforts to intensity his team built after having lost to Skyline on Friday.

“Absolutely. We played a really good team [Friday] night and we didn’t win the game, but we played 100 percent, and we took that same intensity into this game and it paid off for us,” Hansen said.

Eastlake had a minor 8-0 run in the second quarter to get close, but Mount Si pulled away the rest of the game for the win.
