Junior varsity clobbers Saints

The Mount Si junior-varsity fastpitch softball team pulled out a huge win over Interlake last week 18-2.

The best defensive player of the game for the Wildcats was Elizabeth Short, and the best offensive player was Rachelle Starkel. Starkel had a triple while teammate Jackie Beck had a double. Sam Baldwin, Racheal Godfrey, Kerra Nanuha, Heather Berta and Short all had singles.


Wildcats blows out Skyline

The Mount Si junior-varsity fastpitch softball team had it biggest win of the season last week, defeating Skyline 22-12.

Leela Bilow was the offensive player of the game for the ‘Cats with three hits. Pitcher Emily White was the best defensive player of the game.

Golf team loses to Red Wolves

The Mount Si varsity girls’ golf team fell to Cedarcrest last week in golf 245-269.

Leading the effort for Mount Si was Jess Sanford, who came through with a score of 50, followed by Stacy Shultz’s round of 53.

Other scores were Heidi Lee with 55, Haley Macri with 57, Jessica Whims with 58, Yuka Tsuchioka with 58, Rachel Keinath with 60, Kristina Whims with 61 and Kristina Weder with 63.


Golf team loses to Interlake

Beautiful weather and fairways weren’t enough to give the Mount Si varsity girls’ golf team the edge over Interlake last week, as it lost its match at Mount Si Golf Course 260-281.

For the Wildcats, Jess Sanford shot 51, followed by Kristina Whims with 56. Other scores were Stacy Shultz with 57, Hayley Macri with 58, Kristina Weder with 59, Heidi Lee with 60, Jessica Whims with 60, Rachel Keith with 61, Yuka Tsuchioka with 61 and Heather Waggoner with 64.

Totems down Red Wolves

The Sammamish Totems defeated the Cedarcrest varsity baseball team last week by a score of 14-7.

Aiding the Red Wolves’ offense, Sean McDonald hit a home run and finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate. Tyler Tarte also went 2-for-4, and Ben Brooks recorded an RBI.


‘Cats fall to Newport

Mount Si faced a rough six innings of play against Newport, losing the varsity baseball game 12-2.

Taylor McLellan and Ian Opsal combined on pitching duties, while Jeremy Bess led the offense with an RBI double. Garret Parson also recorded a double.


Mount Si beats Red Wolves

Nick Harpel tossed a three-hit shutout as the Mount Si varsity baseball team snapped a four-game losing streak, defeating Cedarcrest 3-0.

Garret Parsons and Alex Smart had one RBI each for Mount Si (4-8). Harpel, who also went 2-for-3 at the plate, threw 83 pitches. He walked two and struck out eight.

Interlake

Roger Patterson, assisted by Pat Reily, and Evan Lamon, assisted by Pete Talevich, each scored in the second half to help lift the Wildcats over the Saints 3-1.

Drew Arnenth of Mount Si scored in the 38th minute to tie the game at 1-1. Interlake’s Luke Thevenet had the lone goal for the Saints. The goalkeeper for Mount Si was Kellen Patterson.


‘C’ team drops soccer match

Two undefeated soccer teams met last week, Mount Si and Issaquah, with only Issaquah remaining undefeated after beating the Wildcats’ “C” team 3-0.

Mount Si’s Evan Lloyd and Alex Hara had good opportunities to score in the first half, with their shots just missing the goal. Trevor Olson had a shot go off the crossbar in the second half.

Issaquah scored first and controlled the offense in the first half. The Wildcats stepped up their offense in the second half but it wasn’t enough to get a score.

Jeff Lewis played goalkeeper for the Wildcats and made several dramatic saves.


JV drops match to Interlake

Despite playing tough defense, the Mount Si junior-varsity soccer team lost to Interlake last week 2-0.

Both Saints goals came in the second half.

JV girls lose to Mercer Island

The Mount Si girls’ junior-varsity tennis team lost a close match to Mercer Island last week 9-7.

The lone singles winner was Marian Lloyd, 8-5. Doubles winners were Casey Bender and Audrey Christenson, 8-2; Meghan Manson and Rebecca Coffey, 8-2; Kailene Curnow and Nena Gonzales, 8-4; Jessie Lentgis and Lindsay Loeffler, 8-5; Laurissa Everett and Marian Lloyd, 8-6; and Cai Fredrichs and Audrey Christenson, 8-4.

Mount Si defeats Liberty

The Mount Si girls’ track team pulled out an impressive victory last week, defeating Liberty 102-44.

Freshman Kelsey Lamon ran season-best times of 12.98 seconds and 26.96 seconds in the 100- and 200-meter races. She also ran on the 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams.

Kristen Berndt had a personal record of 108 feet, 6 inches in the javelin to take second place, as well as winning the 100-meter hurdles in 17.3 seconds.

Meaghan Dunklee, competing in her first meet of the season, won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 54.2 seconds and placed second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.7 seconds.

Jessica Hanna won the 800-meter race in a season’s best time of 2 minutes, 34.7 seconds, and Piper Sherbon won the high jump and set a personal record in the shot put by throwing 32 feet, 1 inch.

Whitney Chelgren won the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 2 1/2 inches, while teammate Lauren Paulus took home several honors, winning the triple jump, placing second in the long jump and second in the pole vault. Carrie Frantz cleared 8 feet to win the pole vault, and Ashley Van Oeveren won the discus event with a throw of 106 feet, 4 inches.

Caitlin Braun had personal records in the discus and shot put, while teammate Shannon Kelly placed second in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races.
