ssaquah hands ‘Cats a loss

Despite 10 points from Eric Tierney, the Mount Si Wildcat boys’ basketball team dropped a game to Issaquah last week, 61-46. The Indians jumped out to a 30-18 halftime lead and never looked back. Others scoring for Mount Si were Logan Ratcliffe with nine, Scott Johnson with four, Jacob Waggoner with four, Bryan Gabriel with eight, D.J. Pennewell with two, Jeremy Johnston with four and Chris Lyle with five.


Totems upend Cedarcrest

The Cedarcrest boys’ varsity basketball team lost last week to Sammamish, 58-41. Sammamish was behind at halftime, but used an 18-point third quarter to defeat the Red Wolves. Chris Kracht and Brian Stephenson led Cedarcrest with 10 points each. Others scoring for the Red Wolves were Kyle Eldred with one, Russell McGinnis with six, Brett DeVries with 10, Pat Conrick with two and Isaac Sprague with two.


Cedarcrest pulls out OT win

The Cedarcrest girls’ basketball team led by Anjuli Brady with 12 points, held off the Totems in a physical overtime thriller. Cedarcrest was down by as many as 14 in the first quarter as the Totems’ Janelle Potter poured in eight early points, but the Red Wolves adjusted and kept Potter scoreless the rest of the way. Others scoring for the Red Wolves were Betsy Westermann with six, Jenine Drew with six, Nikki Neilson with eight, Rachel Salz with two, Stephanie Ayers with eight, Dianne McKenney with two, and Marcie McCoy with two. Ayers also had 12 rebounds for the Red Wolves, who went to the free-throw line 10 times in overtime.


Red Wolves take third place

Aaron Pedeferri and Robby Westermann led the charge last week as the Cedarcrest Red Wolves’ wrestling team took third in the Aberdeen Christmas Classic.

Pedeferri and Westermann each took first in their weight classes of 119 and 189 pounds respectively. Other placers for the Red Wolves were Conner Baker – sixth at 103; Darren DeBoer – second at 130; Kurtis Lett – fourth at 130; Tate Brammer – fourth at 135; Cody Hudson – third at 140; Andrew Claussen – second at 145; Tony Stedman – fifth at 152; Alan Shults – third at 160; Adam Speir – third at 171; Chris Ansell – fourth at 215; and Cole Birk – fifth at 275.


JV boys having great season

The Mount Si boys’ junior-varsity basketball team has done well from the beginning of the season. The team opened up with Lake Washington and lost 63-40, and also dropped a game to Tahoma before finally notching a win against Mount Rainier, 45-63. It then defeated Newport 45-35, but lost to Mercer Island the same week. Finally on Friday, Dec. 14, the ‘Cats defeated a tough Skyline team at home in overtime, 60-53. It was 50-50 at the end of regulation, but the Wildcats outscored the Spartans 10-3 in the four-minute overtime period to secure the win. Top scorers for the Mount Si squad were Hank Kennedy and Casey Hough with 13 each, and D.J. Pennewell with nine.


Wildcat girls lose to Indians

Amy Trenkamp with her 13 points wasn’t enough to give the Wildcat girls’ basketball “C” team a win as it lost to Issaquah last week, 39-32. Other top scorers were Marie Will with eight and Amy Stauch with six. Then, in action against Skyline, the “C” team recorded a 27-20 win. Will had 11 points, Emily White had six and Maggie Kujath had 14.
