Basketball

Mount Si blasts

Red Wolves

The Mount Si girls’ basketball team notched another win last week by defeating Lower Valley rivals Cedarcrest 79-31 in varsity action. Mount Si scored 40 points off of 29 Red Wolves’ turnovers. Whitney Beyerlin scored a game-high 20 points and had 10 steals. Rachel Travis added 12 points and 10 rebounds in the win. Other scorers in the game were: Rachael Perrell with eight; Nicole Remish with eight; Marie Will with eight; Karin Brevick with six; Tara Eddings with five; Shannon Posey with four; Landa Pastrana with three; Christie Leatiota with two; and Kaycee Crossan with one.


Mount Si falls to Skyline

A 23-0 run by Skyline turned a close game into a loss as Mount Si fell to the Spartans 52-37 in varsity girls’ basketball action. The Spartans led early in the third quarter 27-25 then touched off their 23-point run to put the game away. Whitney Beyerlin led the effort for Mount Si with 10 points followed by Nicole Remish with eight, Rachel Travis with five, Shannon Posey with four, Tara Eddings with three, Rachael Perrell with two, Karin Brevick with two, Marie Will with two and Sabrina Porterfield with one.


JV girls raise record

Behind the hot shooting of junior Kelsey Myers, the Mount Si JV basketball team raised their record to 8-4 with a 52-25 win over Cedarcrest. Chelsey Potoshnik added 12 points and eight rebounds with teammate Jessica Marley adding five steals.


JV beats Spartans

In a dramatic 43-40 win the Mount Si JV basketball team defeated the Skyline Spartans to move to a 9-4 overall record and 5-1 in league action.



Wrestling

‘Cats blast Newport

Mount Si’s varsity wrestling team rebounded from their loss to Mercer Island with a 56-15 pounding of Newport. Starting at the 130-pound weight class, the Wildcats’ Matt Haas set the tone for the night with a 21-4 technical fall over his Newport opponent. Gymnastics

‘Cats defeat Bellevue

The Mount Si gymnastics team posted its best team score ever with a 144.3 to 132.05 win over Bellevue last week. Piper Sherbon placed first in all four events as well as winning the all-around honors. Meritt Kott placed second in the vault, fifth on the beam and third on the floor. Samantha Baldwin placed third on the vault and teammate Sarah Lewis placed third on the bars. Other impressive performances came from Erika Jensen who placed fifth on the vault, and Danielle Carlson who placed fourth on the bars. Casey Stinnett also had a great outing, placing fifth on the bars, third on the beam and seventh on the floor, good enough for third all-around.
