A look at Mount Si sports for the week.

Boys place in tournament

Erik Tierney scored 21 points, shooting 4-for-8 from the three-point range, as the Wildcats (4-5) defeated King’s 49-46, for 13th place in the tournament in the Chaminade Christmas Classic basketball tournament in Chaminade California. Jeremy Johnston scored 17 points, had nine rebounds and four assists for Mount Si. The Wildcats had a 15-5 first quarter lead and held on for the win.

Other scorers for the game were Luke Landdeck with three, Ryan Reilly with two and Jarrod Wiegardt with six.

Mount Si finished the tournament with a 2-2 record, after squeaking out a 59-58 overtime win on Dec. 29 night against Van Nuys, Calif. – Tierney hit a long three-pointer with 40 seconds left in overtime to give the Wildcats the win against Van Nuys. Against Van Nuys, Kyle Clearman scored three, Kevin Englund scored four, Johnston had five, Landdeck had 16, Eric Jeuli had two, Kyle Meuli had five, Jordan Proudfoot had five, Reilly had five, Tierney had 11, Wiegardt had two and Zach Bowen had one.


Girls take second

The Mount Si varsity girls’ basketball team rolled to a second- place finish in the Arizona Cactus Jam tournament in Phoenix after losing to Hamilton (of Arizona) in the finals.

In game one they took on St. Joseph, winning 69-45. Rachel Travis was all over the court, racking up 26 points. Karin Brevick followed with 12 and Whitney Beyerlin added 10. Tara Eddings added one, Kaycee Crossan had two, Shannon Posey added nine and Christie Leatiota had seven.

The win set up a game with Livingston. N.J., which Mount Si dominated for the 44-12 win. Beyerlin led the effort with 10 points, six rebounds, six steals and four assists all in the first half earning Player of the Game honors. Mount Si had a 23-3 halftime lead and held Livingston scoreless in the first quarter. Travis added 10 points, Brevick had six, Nicole Remish had four, Rachael Perrell had four, Tara Eddings had three, Pose had three, Kaycee Crossan had two and Leatiota had two.
