Cats lose to Islanders

The Mount Si golfers lost a close match to Mercer Island last week, 232-239. Leading the ‘Cats was medalist Katie Somers, who shot a two-over-par 38. Helping Somers in the strong showing was Jen Sanford, Katie Stapleton, Becky Wada and Alyssa Bliven, who birdied the fourth hole.


Team falls to Issaquah

Despite a three-over-par 39 from Katie Somers, the Mount Si girls’s golf team dropped itsmatch against Issaquah last week, 219-249.

Also scoring for the ‘Cats was Becky Wada, Jen Sanford, Jodie Smith and Katie Stapleton.

Wildcats notch two

The Mount Si JV softball team raised their league record to 5-0 with two wins last week. Early in the week they defeated Mercer Island 12-3 and then shut out Bellevue 10-0.

Against the Islanders, Kayla Stewart had the hot bat with four base hits and six runs batted in. Against Bellevue, Hannah Mortenson and Emily Ruhland had three hits each. Courtney Tubbs struck out seven batters in the last three innings.


JV team defeats Interlake

The Mount Si JV tennis team absolutely demolished Interlake last week 13-0. All 20 players won their matches.


‘Cats defeat Interlake

The Mount Si girls track team defeated Interlake last week, 99-50. Diane Keller had an outstanding meet, winning three individual events and running on the winning 4×200 relay. Her time of 16.6 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles equaled the leagues’ best and she cleared 5 feet in the high jump.

Madison Yakaboski ran a great time of 12.8 seconds in the 100 meters and also anchored the 4×400 relay team. Tove Garhart won the pole vault with a height of nine feet and Kelsey Tarp had a personal best of 31 feet, 5 inches to win the shot.

Symone Shaw won the long jump with a distance of 16 feet and teammate Stephanie Burk won the triple jump with an outstanding leap of 32 feet, 5 inches.

The 4×400 relay team of Nicole Remish, Jessica Oliver, Burk and Yakaboski ran a great time of four minutes, 15.6 seconds to win that event.


Mounti Si Boys fall to Interlake Saints

The Mount Si boys’ track team lost a tough meet to the Interlake Saints last week 80-67 despite several valiant efforts.

Frank McLaughlin had another excellent meet with wins in both the 100 and 200-meter races. His time in the 100 was 11.4 seconds and in the 200 was 23.1 seconds. He also anchored the 4×400 meter relay team, securing the win in a time of three minutes, 39 seconds. Joe Taklo, Thomas Goble and Sean Bothell also ran on the 4×400 meter relay team.

Bothell also won the triple jump with a distance of 37 feet, 9 1/2 inches and Goble ran a personal best time of 2:04 to place first in the 800 meter.

Teammate Owen Strom clinched a victory in the 3,200 meter race with a time of 11:04.6. Josh Davis had another strong performance in the throwing events, winning the discus with a distance of 133 feet, 2 inches and taking second in the shot. Keith Keller had a personal best in the javelin with a distance of 153 feet, 7 inches and teammate Jake Tweten took second in the discus and third in the shot, both with personal best throws.

Zach Sumer continued his notable senior season by placing second in the javelin and clearing a personal best in the pole vault at 12 feet, 6 inches, good enough for third.
