A look at Mount Si sports for the week

Wildcat JV scores big wins over Eagles, Knights

In the Valley Record’s fall girls’ soccer preview for Mount Si, one of the factors used to label the Wildcat varsity as preseason league title favorites was the depth of future talent. Mount Si’s junior varsity is showing that to be the case as they moved to a strong 11-2-2 record with a dramatic 4-3 win over Issaquah last Tuesday, Oct. 24.

The Wildcats blew out to a 3-0 first-half lead behind a pair of goals from Avery Hamann; one off an assist from Chloe Loveridge and the other on a penalty kick. Kelly Besmer also punched one in with the help of Taylor Robbins.

Despite a tough Mount Si defense led by Taylor Warnke, the Eagles erupted for three goals within 10 minutes in the second half to tie the contest at 3-3. Freshman Meghan Travis didn’t let that stop her, though, as she made things happen late for the Wildcats, scoring with less than five minutes left in the game to put Mount Si back up for good.

“It was a well-fought battle and a well-deserved win, with all the girls working at 110 percent,” wrote Wildcats’ junior varsity coach Glen Cramer in his report to the Valley Record.

Mount Si finished off the season with a 1-0 win last Thursday night at Newport and their final record of 12-2-2 clinched second place in Kingco 3A junior varsity ranks.

Rudd headed to state for cross country.

Alex Rudd was the only Mount Si Wildcat to qualify for the state cross country meet to be held in Pasco Nov. 4. Rudd took eighth at the district meet with a time of 19:49, 56 seconds behind the first-place finisher.
