Stanton in regional soccer playoffs

When the final whistle blew in this year’s girls’ U-13 state soccer championship game, Crossfire Premier ’90 had prevailed 5-0 and won their second consecutive state championship. North Bend native and attacking mid-fielder Nikki Stanton and her Crossfire teammates not only received the championship trophy, but also earned the right to represent Washington State in this year’s Region IV Soccer Championships now being held in Spokane. On their way to the championship, Crossfire compiled a 28-1-4 record with 95 goals for and only 12 against. Their sole loss to a team in their age group was to Southern California’s OJSC Stepsisters, who are currently ranked 7th nationally.

The week-long tournament that started June 22 pits champions from 13 Western states against each other to determine which team is “the best in the West.” Opening bracket play for Crossfire includes games against Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada, with the top two teams advancing to the single elimination rounds.

Stanton is an honor student in the seventh-grade at Chief Kanim Middle School. After playing for the Cascade Select Magic tea for two years, she became a member of the Crossfire ’90 squad in March 2002.
