SRA holding open house

The Sammamish Rowing Association (SRA) will be holding an open house on Saturday, June 11, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you have ever wanted to try rowing, here’s your chance. The boat house will be open and coaches will be available for questions. The Sammamish Rowing Association is located at 5022 W. Lake Sammamish Blvd., Redmond (7/10 mile south of the entrance to Marymoor Park).

Reynolds scores at state

Georgia Reynolds, a 12-year-old from North Bend, recently competed in the state club gymnastics competition. In her age group, she took 10th in all-around with a score of 36.55. She took 17th in the vault with a score of 8.85, fourth in the bars with a score of 9.675, 12th on the beam with a score of 9.075 and 20th on floor with a score of 8.95. Reynolds competes for Gymnastics East in Preston.


Mount Si soccer holding camps

During the month of July, the Wildcat soccer program will host a series of soccer camps. Called “Wildcat Attack Camps.” The event, to be run by Wildcat soccer coach Darren Brown, will run July 11-14, July 18-21, and July 25-28, from 9 a.m. to noon at Snoqualmie Middle School. The camps will provide youth players ages 6-14 with the technical and tactical skills necessary to become top-level players in youth soccer. The cost for the camp is $80.

Haakenson honored

Dan Haakenson, a 2001 graduate of Mount Si, is a four-year letter winner in track and field for Pacific Lutheran University. He recently won the PLU senior athlete award and is regarded as one of the top throwers not only in the Northwest Conference, but also in NCAA Division III. He has been ranked nationally in the hammer throw three of his four years and is currently ranked in the top 10 nationally for hammer with a throw of 181-8. He will compete at the national championships later this month in the hammer throw. He has had multiple top-conference finishes in each of his four years. He is the 2005 Northwest Conference champion in the hammer and won the hammer and discus at the 2003 conference meet. He is double majoring in English and classics and plans to attend graduate school.

“Dan is such a joy to have on our team,” said PLU head coach Heather Kreier. “He is a team leader. He is a wealth of information in the throws and offers helpful technical adjustments to his teammates.”


Haakenson sets career best

Pacific Lutheran University senior Dan Haakenson, a 2001 graduate of Mount Si, established a new career best to win the hammer throw and had a season-best throw while winning the discus at the Western Washington University Twilight Meet recently.

Haakenson threw the hammer 181-8, beating his previous career best by three feet. In the discus, he had a throw of 147-8, a new season best by three feet.

Haakenson had two of PLU’s three victories and eight season bests in last week’s meet.


Locals do well in gymnastics meet

Several local gymnasts competed in the 2005 spring level four gymnastics meet held recently. The meet is the qualifier for the state meet. In the age 7-and-under group, Mikaelyn Davis placed second with an all-around score of 36.5. She is a second grader at North Bend Elementary School. In the 8-year-old group, Erin Antoch placed sixth with an all around score of 36.225. She is a third grader at North Bend Elementary.

In the nine-year-old group, Emily Woitchek had an all around score of 36.05. She is a third grader at Fall City Elementary. In the 11-year-old group, Brooke Bonner placed second with an all-around score of 36.125.

Finally, Nichole Trickey, competing in the 10-year-old group placed first in all-around with a score of 37.7. She attends Opstad Elementary School. All the girls compete for Gymnastics East in Preston.
